I have long hesitated to publish a mugshot of mine on the internet. Now I found befunky.com, which sufficiently remixes my facial pixels to make me feel comfortable and still give you an impression of me. Therefore, there's the profile photo.

Which is the right way? Integrating iPhoto+Flickr+Posterous
After messing around with Posterous, Flickr and iPhoto for some time now, I still can't figure out the One True Way of integrating them. Problem is, there are too many integration options (not too few). iPhoto '09 will upload any selected photos to Flickr and put them in a set. You can rename the set, add and remove photos from that set's entry in the iPhoto view and it gets sync'ed up to Flickr in no time. So, one route is to use iPhoto to upload to Flickr and then write a blog post about it, using a Flickr-provided link boilerplate. But …
The alternative route is to write the blog post in the mail client, attach the pictures to the mail, address that to Posterous and be done with it. Posterous will create a nice thumbnail viewer and gallery from the photos and place that with the new post on the blog. Which is definitly more attractive (to me) than just one teaser photo that links to the Flickr set. Posterous will even sync the photos over to Flickr. But it lacks the iPhoto integration: iPhoto will never know about the photos being on Flickr.
I guess what I need is another link magic from Posterous. If my post contains a Flickr set-URL, create that fine thumbnail/gallery-viewer for the photos on flickr and embed the viewer into the blog post in the place where originally the set-link appeared in the posting. Me thinks, me's gonna suggest this to the Posterous folks. They seem nice enough :)

Germany might not be satisfied with only reaching position 20 of 25 participating countries/songs in the Eurovision Song Contest. But we were very satisfied again this year with our 25 courses dinner event. Rules: The menu is being served (and munched) while the Eurovision Song Contest is on the TV. You eat the course of the country while that same country (its participant) sings its song. So, this year it was roasted duck while Patricia Kaas sang and some transylvanian killer-pudding for Romania, and 23 more delicacies. (Click the photo to get to the flickr set.) Yum yum!

Deutschland mag ja mit dem 20. Platz beim Eurovision Song Contest nicht zufrieden sein. Wir waren auch dieses Jahr wieder begeistert über unser mit 5 Freunden gekochtes 25gängiges Menü. Die Regeln wie jedes Jahr: Das Festmahl findet während des Eurovision Song Contest statt. Während das Lied eines bestimmten Landes im TV läuft, wird das Gericht aus diesem Land verspeist. EuroMampfContest 2009 steht vor der Tür
Auch dieses Jahr wieder kochen, braten, backen und dünsten wir. Streng in Startreihenfolge mampfen wir am Samstag 24 Gerichte aus den Finalisten-Ländern des Eurovision Song Contest. Bisher haben sich von "unseren" (zugelosten) Ländern Israel, Island, Bosnien-Herzegovina, Malta und UK qualifiziert, wobei wir für UK einen Nachtisch (oder was Hochprozentiges) servieren werden. Rezept-Vorschläge für landestypische Gerichte sind willkommen!

No-one is Pro-Kinderporno
Ein paar Politiker lehnen sich ziemlich aus dem Fenster in Sachen Internetsperren (Tarnname: "Kinderpornosperren"), sie sehen nicht ein, dass ihre keiner demokratischen Kontrolle unterworfenen Zensur-Methoden bei manchen Menschen (manchen? Hey, über 50.000 Menschen!) die Alarmglocken schrillen lassen. Oder wollen es nicht einsehen. Wer Internet-Zensur ablehnt, gilt in ihren Augen als Befürworter von Kinderpornographie. Ich warte ja nur drauf, dass einer von denen mal das Wort "Mittäter" oder "macht sich mitschuldig" für Leute gebraucht, denen die Redefreiheit am Herzen liegt.
Deswegen möchte ich hier ein Zitat von Barack Obama abwandeln, das er in einer der Debatten mit John McCain (ich glaube in der letzten) geprägt hat. McCain hatte was von "Pro-Abortion" ("Abtreibungsbefürworter") gefaselt, und Mr. President warf ein entschiedenes "No-one is Pro-Abortion!" dazwischen. (McCain wollte damit wohl die Pro-Choice-Bewegung diskriminieren.) Daher nochmal zum Mitschreiben: Leute, die sich gegen Internetzensur engagieren, sind nicht Pro-Kinderporno. Bis auf ein paar Perverse gilt daher:

Außer amerikanische Präsidentensprüche anpassen kann man natürlich auch:

Internet - Keine Indizierung und Sperrung von Internetseiten
Es geht um die Einrichtung einer allgemeinen Internet-Zensur, samt automatisierter Meldung der "Übeltäter" ans BKA. Als Deckmantel dient der "Kampf gegen die Kinderpornographie". Es wurde an anderer Stelle schon dutzendfach belegt, warum das nur ein Deckmantel ist. Verfassungswidrig ist es allemal, weil keine demokratisch legitimierte und überprüfbare Instanz in die Erstellung der Sperrliste involviert ist. Ein Gesetz, das genau so lange lebt, bis Karlsruhe es in den Shredder wirft. Also bitte, gar nicht erst verabschieden, meine Damen und Herren Volksvertreter!
Jetzt fehlt nur noch, dass die Volksvertreter auf uns hören.

Das virology blog gibt einen täglichen Überblick über die Ausbreitung der Schweinegrippe ("neuen Grippe", nennt's wie ihr's wollt), very level-headed, will sagen: emotional nicht überheizt.

Natürlich heißt das nicht, dass ich jetzt sofort loslaufe, um mir so ein Profile anzulegen. Jeder, der einen Google-Account hat, für Google Mail z.B., der hat eh schon eines. Google, der olle Datenkrake, erwartet aber, dass man dieses Profil ein bißchen mästest mit dem Woher und Wohin des Lebens, bevor es Google gut genug für die Anzeige in der Link-Liste ist.
Und ob ich tatsächlich gefunden werden will, ist noch eine ganz andere Frage, deren Beantwortung ich noch ein wenig prokrastinieren werde.

Installing VirtualBox 2.2 Guest Additions on Fedora 10
Scenario: Run Fedora 10 as a guest OS in VirtualBox 2.2.0 on Windows XP.
Start with downloading the Fedora 10 Live CD from FedoraProject and boot it in a new VirtualBox VM. Once the Live CD has started, use the "install to disk" option on the desktop to, well, install it on the virtual machine's disk. This should run smoothly and leave you, after rebooting with the Live CD removed, with a usable Fedora system inside the Virtual Box VM.
Now the real work begins: In order to install the Guest Additions (VMware users, think VMware Tools), it is not sufficient to just run the installer from the disk, that is mounted for you, when you select [Devices] > [Install Guest Additions ...] menu of Virtual Box. Most likely, this will fail.
Several forum posts suggest, you need to install/update the kernel headers und sources, but even that is not sufficient.
For the next steps it is important that you work with root privileges. Open a Terminal and type
su -
to work as root (provide password when prompted).
What worked for me was to follow this post and add everything kernel to my Fedora:
yum install binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel
And then, like this fellow suggested, run
yum update
over your whole system (takes some time, updates a lot) and reboot.
After the reboot, just for thrills, run
yum update kernel-headers and
yum update kernel-devel
– this should not result in any more updates!
By then it's time for another run at that install script:
[root@fedoravm VBOXADDITIONS_2.2.0_45846]# sh VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
– which should run smoothly now, install all the guest additions and, after the reboot, reward you with smooth integration of the Fedora VBOX into your Windows. For example, resizing the VBOX window changes the screen resolution of Fedora inside the box. Clipboard integration also works; mouse pointer crosses border between real and virtual box without a bump.
If I wasn't so exhausted by the whole snafu, I'd be excited.
I am no Linux expert, but from what I glanced over, there seem to be some parts lacking in the Live CD setup that the Guest Additions need, like kernel headers and stuff like that. The yum install above partially takes care of that, but I think it needs the yum update to get everything into sync, so that the install script can find its way around.
Anyway, best of luck for those of you on the same endeavor!
